Sitting in a cafeteria across from a college student the words just popped out of my mouth…”I choose to be abnormal!” His eyes lit up and he answered “I like that!”

Today is most assuredly a different day unlike any ever seen before. It’s certainly not “normal.” The prophet Joel put it like this “Has anything like this ever happened in your days or in the days of your fathers?” (Joel 2:2b) Of course the answer is NO!

In just about every way life and the world we live in is different. Weather patterns, politics, social and civic environments…you name it…it’s just plain different.

Of course God has not changed…”Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” (Heb. 13:8)

Yet, I am convinced the different day we live in demands there be a people of a “different spirit” who will honor Christ and fulfill His purposes. The book of Numbers explains what I’m talking about…

“But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit in him, and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it.” (Numbers 14:24)

Caleb had a “different spirit.” He did not have a weird, strange or ungodly spirit but a different outlook and perspective on situations and life.

Remember he and Joshua were amongst the twelve spies sent to spy out the land God had promised them. All twelve spies saw exactly the same thing. The majority of them gave a bad report and only saw obstacles but Joshua and Caleb saw opportunity.

This wasn’t easy after spending nearly 40 years wandering with a bunch of complainers. Yet the Bible notes Caleb had “a different spirit.”

What does that mean…here are a few thoughts that contributed to Caleb’s different spirit:

1)He chose to identify with Joshua—the successor to Moses. Not a bad choice. Who you identify and connect with identifies you.

2)God referred to Caleb as “my servant.” What an honor to be called a servant of God. We get to do the things we do when we serve Christ.

3)Caleb was faithful to God, Moses and God’s purpose for his life. God could count on Caleb and readily acknowledged Caleb as His servant. Faithfulness is an evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in our life.

Caleb’s different spirit affected how he saw the promised land. It added to the call, vision and dream of Canaan being one of opportunity as opposed to being filled with insurmountable obstacles.

His different spirit gave him purpose, passion and energy into his 80’s when he said “Today at 85 years old I am as strong as I was when Moses sent me on that journey. I can still travel and fight as I could then. So give me the hill country that the Lord promised me.” (Joshua 14:11&12 NLT)

Friends, we need a people of a different spirit. How can we pursue this?

--Refuse to settle for the religious/spiritual status quo. Jesus urged us to be spiritual hot…not cold or lukewarm (normal?).

--Ask God for a fresh work of His Spirit in your life.

--Do something for someone else you might not normally do or speak to others about Christ when you may typically be silent.

-- Make some alterations to your journey to more fully pursue Christ’s call and direction for your life.

Let’s not settle for normal.

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

PRAYER LETTER

 For Mardi Gras 2017 Evangelistic Invasion

February 24-28,2017

 Will you pray with us?

 “A wise man attacks the city of the mighty and pulls down the strongholds in which they trust.” (Prov.21:22 NIV)

The purpose of this letter is to give you some specific targets for prayer. Thank you for joining together with us.

• There will be at least 1500 Christian and several ministries (i.e. S.U.M, Raven, No Greater Love and others) along with SHOM and our partners The Rock Family Worship Center coming from across America with soulwinning as their focus) Pray for our travel and all the participating ministries.
• -          New Orleans has a slogan—“the city that care forgot.” But God has remembered the people of the city. Pray against all the strongholds of the city (i.e. witchcraft,rebellion, perversion, religion, etc.) Pray for the local churches there as well. We   want to bless them.
•  -          Pray with us for a mighty move of God and harvest of people coming to know Jesus. Our very purpose is to did as Jesus    did… “seek and save the lost.”(Luke 19:10)
• -        Please lift up myself, our family, SHOM, our staff and other outreach leaders. Over the years satan has tried to “sideswipe” us in our homes,  office, etc.
•         Pray for wisdom & discernment as we implement outreach plans 
•        Lift up all the outreach workers. We’re meeting weekly fasting, praying, teaching and preparing. Pray specifically for their health, families and  strength on every level and protection.

While this is our 36^th outreach to the Mardi Gras, we need  fresh insight and anointing. With your praying together with us we can see God give miraculous breakthroughs and divine appointments. Men,women and children will be touched by Christ’s love and snatched from the jaws of the devourer.

Most of all, thank you for being such a great friend who shares God’s heart to reach others and will pray for lives to be changed in New Orleans.

I don’t have a job!

Now do not misunderstand me. It’s not that I do not have anything to do. That most certainly is not the case.

My friend Matthew Barnett, pastor of the Dream Center in Los Angeles says this…

”We Get To Serve.”

God has given Nancy and I an assignment or maybe a better word would be mission. It most certainly is not what some would call a “job.”

“And whatever you do, do it heartily as to the Lord, not to men…” (Col.3:23)

Friends, what I’ve done the entirety of my adult life has never been a job per se…it’s what “we get to do!” Oh yes, there is an enormous amount of work involved. Seemingly endless hours, days, etc. at times. But the truth is “we get to do this.”  The alternative to this is unthinkable to me.

During the Thanksgiving season (and all year) I’m thankful for the things “we get to do”amongst many others…

We get to bring Good News to broken people.

We get to go to places that are oppressed and hurting.

We get to train men and women to reach their world with the gospel.

We get to see Jesus help meet the great challenges being faced at every level.

We get to stretch to reach others.

We get to live our lives for the greater cause of Christ.

We get to partner together with you to see lives touched and changed by God.

God is so good isn’t He?  

Think about the second part of Paul’s statement to the Colossians:

“…knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”(Col. 3:24)

Part of that reward comes through the testimonies of people meeting Jesus and vital reaching ministries in our nation growing because of what we get to do.

^“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him,  even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ…” (1 Tim. 1:12-13a NLT)

Would you take a moment now to pause and Give Thanks to God for those things  “you get to do” as opposed to “have to do.”

 Life is a gift. To serve Him in every dimension of life is a privilege.

 Together we get to make a difference.

In a recent prayer meeting I listened as a young man passionately cried out to heaven for another Jesus Movement.

Immediately I began to ask myself “do we really want another Jesus Movement?”  I was a part of the first Jesus Movement. I was saved and swept into the Kingdom of God during that season and was an early Jesus Freak (still am too!) helping to start a ministry in Denver that became a spark plug igniting a holy fire in a young generation in that area.

It was something else. Jesus was moving mightily. We were on the streets, sharing the gospel,rescuing broken lives, had a coffeehouse, a monthly newspaper, gave away free food, had a hotline phone ministry, a Jesus rock n roll band (I played drums)…a lot of great stuff happened. Most importantly, what took place was  Jesus changed so many, many lives.

This Jesus Movement thing was happening everywhere…West Coast, East Coast, Colorado,Florida, Kansas…The Holy Spirit was not bound up geographically.

Yet when the question won’t go away “Do we really want another Jesus Movement?” A bible verse instantly comes to mind…

“Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.” (Prov.14:4 NLT) If we want “another Jesus Movement” we must understand that a strong ox will mess up a clean stable.

Yes, the Jesus Movement was a genuine move of the Holy Spirit which in essence was Heaven’s response to difficult times in America and the rebellious baby boom youth generation that was profoundly pushing the limits of culture and morality to new dimensions which laid the groundwork for the moral and spiritual darkness we are living in today.

God would not permit that to take place without a divine response and intervention that we call the Jesus Movement.

My friend, the strength of that oxen brought some mess along with it.

Churches, pastors and Christians had their tidy religious apple carts upset as youth with long hair, jeans, shorts, barefoot, halter tops, etc. showed up in church. Some embraced it, others did not…it was different. Change had to be made… and it surely was!

With the work of a strong ox comes a bit of waste material strewn along the floor of the stable. There was some craziness but ultimately Jesus seriously impacted a generation.

Have we become so locked into the neat tidy formulas, celebrity driven,  commercialized, convenience centered,light weight religion that deep change is distasteful to us? Are “the old ways” (I don’t mean bible ways) we have always done things, always the best ways?

The Jesus Movement sparked a deeply needed positive change in contemporary Christianity at a crucial and tumultuous time in history. A clean and  new life through Jesus Christ and the work of God at Calvary were focal points.

  At its best, the “movement” was Jesus centered, bible based and people reaching. God’s mark was supernaturally and indelibly left upon a generation marked for destruction.

Could it be we are at a somewhat similar point in history when nothing short of divine intervention will do? In my estimation we are.

DO I WANT ANOTHER JESUS MOVEMENT TYPE MOVE OF GOD!  YES… BUT IN WHATEVER SHAPE OR FORM GOD CHOOSES!

“ Our God is in heaven; He does whatever he pleases.” (Ps.115:3)

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” (1 Cor.2:9NLT)

Let’s continue to pray and be pro-active in our world lifting up Christ, believing for another great awakening and sharing our faith with others.

Don’t wait…start NOW!

This is a deeply heartfelt letter. My heart is torn asunder.

We’re in the midst of TURN UP THE HEAT, our extended summer of outreach. The Holy Spirit is at work literally from coast-to-coast.

There have been amazing times of ministry – ministering to nearly 350 men and women coming out of drug, alcohol and broken lifestyles in California and Florida. Nancy and I shared GOOD NEWS in one of our favorite places to reach people on Skid Row in Los Angeles. Often the altars in our services are filled with people crying out to God for help and hope. PRAISE GOD!

Yet the country we live in and is the center of our heart is in incredible need. You know this! Even the city we live in—Dallas,Texas—recently experienced that horrific tragedy of violence and murder.

In writing to you, our most faithful friends and ministry family, I desired to share great reports but I must also join in with the growing voice calling us all to cry out to heaven for God’s help in our towns, cities and nation.

While re-reading God’s call to you and me…

“…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chron.7:14)

It is clear that God does not place the destiny of a nation in the hands of political parties or governments but in the hands of His people.

The words “if My people” make His act of “healing our land” conditional upon our action.

Dear friend, together let’s respond to God with a right heart; earnestly seeking Him and praying along with spreading the life changing gospel of Jesus Christ. There most certainly is no more time to waste!

Summer is here!

Across America, all the predictions for a hot summer are coming true.

Summertime season is one we often look forward to. Starting in kindergarten our lives plan ahead for summer…no school, vacations, travel, family reunions, camps, beach (my favorite), mountains, lakes, etc.

Although, as good as this is, I’ve noticed a bit of a summer phenomenon over the years. It seems that when summer temperatures rise…spiritual temperatures may lower. Have you noticed this?

Church attendance is lower, bible reading is less, small group meetings and ministry activities often “take a break” for a few months. It then seems as if the spiritual temperature reading often begins to cool down. We may even be tempted to engage in the insidious growing culture of compromise seeping into believer’s lives.

Jesus made an interesting observation regarding lukewarm or nominal Christian living…  “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.(Rev.3:15)

Consider one of our most life essential elements…WATER.

We drink it, wash in it, have fun in it and so very much more. It is useful at any temperature…at cold or ice it preserves food or refreshes as a cold drink.

But it is most powerful and even dangerous when it is HOT...RED HOT! When it reaches 212 degrees (the boiling point) and becomes steam it can penetrate and dominate an area.

Our lives with Christ are lived BEST—at maximum peak, fulfillment and purpose— not at room temperature or cold but with the heat turned up and living at the boiling point.

Friends, let’s TURN UP THE HEAT during these summer months (and year round) staying “red hot” following Jesus.

HOW?

Stay focused “set your mind on things above…” (Col.3:2)

Increase your intake of flammable material (God’s Word) “…But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones.” (Jer.20:9)

Spend time listening to Him-“They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as He talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us.” (Lu.24:32 NLT)

Eliminate “inflammable material” from your life “…lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily ensnares us.” (Heb.12:1-2)

Get Active Serving & Reaching–“If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul, Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noonday.” (Is.58:10)

We’ve already started TURN UP THE HEAT 2016 calling this generation to Christ and to serve Him at the boiling point –RED HOT & RADICAL!

 This campaign is taking us from Florida to Washington State, Los Angeles to the Jersey Shore. We are bringing the gospel to broken lives in urban and inner city areas, the suburbs and rural communities as well as training more workers to invade their communities NOW.

Our prayer is “Holy Spirit help us TURN UP THE HEAT!”

We pray you have a “red hot” summer!

Dear Friend,

I listened to an old song about Jesus the other day.  I confess, it wasn‘t really a “Christian song.”  The words were “Jesus is just alright with me…” You may even remember it. It’s a catchy tune.

As I read through the lyrics I saw an element of truth I could connect with. The song was popular in it’s day. It had good musicians and possibly helped to make Jesus a bit more acceptable to a contemporary culture.

Solomon wrote “There is nothing new under the sun.” (Ecc. 1:9)

There seems to be a constant effort that transcends generations to make Jesus and Christianity more palatable to the world.

Yes, there was that song and others too. Jesus has been portrayed as a hippie and a radical revolutionary. We have tried to make Him more ethnic, cultural and even somewhat of a Republican.

While I certainly believe, practice and teach  “becoming all things to all men to win some” (see 1 Cor. 9:22) I have realized there are two factors that will always prevent Christianity from being as cool and hip as some would like to make it. Check them out.

The first factor we find in Hebrews 11:6 “ And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

This is absolutely out of sync with today. Trusting in someone you have never,ever seen with your own physical eyes . Giving him your entire life. Confessing your sins and faults to Him. Get this, we even give Him some of our hard earned money! Wow! That could sound crazy.

Yet the results of these really radical acts are amazing. Guilt and shame…GONE!  Infirm bodies made whole! Troubled hearts and minds finding an indescribable peace. Intervention in every day life. These are only the beginning of a trust walk with the unseen yet knowable God.

The second factor cuts incredibly deep. It is summed up in a word that many believers and even contemporary preachers would rather avoid. It’s the word “repentance.” Are you still with me? 

Simply put, following Jesus inherently involves “change.”

Recently, a 10 yr old boy was telling me his life’s goals and dreams. One thing he said grabbed my attention. He said he didn’t want to be “just a believer” in Jesus. He wanted to be a follower!

The reason he said this was because he had witnessed sports and music celebrities who claim to believe in Jesus but there was no evidence in their lives they were truly following Christ.

Jesus said “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3) Paul wrote “…if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.” (2 Cor.5:17)

The attempts to update the coolness of Christianity will always be blocked by these wonderful two factors of a trust walk with a loving God and the necessity to repent from our sins and allow the Holy Spirit to bring about changes in every area of our lives.

In the Fall of 2012 we were preparing for yet another major transition in our life and ministry as we were getting ready to leave The Jersey Shore and come again to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Upon my conversion to Christ (actually 3 days later) I was somehow invited to go to a youth retreat. The young evangelist speaking preached a message and gave an altar call to which I quickly responded. Lifting up my hands as if lifting my life to the Lord I prayed a very simple but dangerous prayer:

“Lord here’s my life—the good and the bad—do with it what You will. I will go where You want me to go, say what You want me to say, do what You want me to do and be what You want me to be…”

Jesus responded to that prayer launching us into a life-long adventure of spreading the Gospel.

In seeking the Lord during this time of tumult and transition a familiar passage of Scripture came to mind (I love how God can speak to us through His Word in times of uncertainty):

Judges 2:10-11  When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel. Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals…

In recent years, numerous Christian leaders have made the case well known that the priority and practice of evangelism has diminished significantly amongst the American church. I believe the fruit of the non-evangelistic religious activity is as  clearly evident today as it was in Judges. Unfortunately, history has repeated itself.

Yet, despite what might seemingly appear as a difficult dark time, a great season of openness is upon us… the open doors to bring the simple life changing gospel of Jesus Christ to a generation that simply does not know Who He Is or what He’s done.

I’ve discovered, even some raised around church in many cases have never had a close encounter with the Son of the Living God…Jesus!

The words from Judges 2 renewed a prophetic type call to my life and the urgency to reach this generation with the eternally life changing Good News of Jesus Christ!

A generation that does not know God is like a clean canvas waiting for the artist to give it life through strokes of paint.

I believe that an absence of Christ in an empty life is an open opportunity to usher in the love and real life only Jesus Christ can bring. We can never go silent!

This is the heart of Scott Hinkle Outreach Ministries. Through all that we’ve done and continue to do…outreaches, rallies, conferences, evangelistic services, literature, training and more—locally, nationally and internationally—our purpose and practice is to “lift Jesus Christ up so all men will be drawn to Him” (read John 12:32).

The true hope for America is that every man, woman and child open their heart and lives wide to the Savior. When a person’s personal war with God ceases their immediate world will begin to change.

Mine surely did and I know yours did, too.

How many times have you needed another chance?

One of the greatest true accounts of second chances came to a man whom God had an incredible future waiting.

You are probably familiar with his story. We are talking about Peter. A rough fisherman who cursed, lost his temper and cut off a man’s ear.

To make matters even worse, Peter denied knowing Jesus not once but three times. If someone denied knowing you three times would you want anything to do with them? Probably not!

After Jesus rose from the dead, an angel told the women who had come to Jesus’ tomb that Jesus was not there. The angel didn’t stop there. Catch what else he said…

“But go, tell His disciples—and Peter—that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.” (Mark 16:7)

With the words “and Peter”Jesus made it clear that He was giving Peter a second chance!

Jesus specifically wanted Peter to know He was back, he was forgiven and it was going to be ok.

Although Peter had blown it…Jesus gave him another chance.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ gives me and you another chance. If God could raise His Son from the grave He can forgive me and you our sins and give us another chance at life. That’s Good News!

March 24 marks the day many years ago God gave me another chance in life. Although I’d been addicted to heroin, caught up in sin and an ungodly way of life…I received a second chance as I opened my life to Christ in a fast food restaurant parking lot.

Thank God He gives a second chance, a third chance and another and another chance to broken people.

I am grateful and I know you are for the chances God gives us!

On Easter weekend Nancy and I will go to bring the second chance Christ offers to broken lives through the gospel on Skid Row in Los Angeles. Skid Row has a stable population of anywhere between 3000-6000 people living under blankets, cardboard boxes and makeshift tents.

Once again we will be working together with our dear friends at Fred Jordan Missions who will serve a delicious meal and we will serve the Good News of Jesus Christ!

Nancy and I pray God’s greatest blessings for you during this resurrection season!

Dear Ministry Family,

This might really sound strange to you, but I really love dark places.

Now I don’t care for dark rooms or restaurants, but it’s places and cities that are dark spiritually that I love and the reason is so simple…

LIGHT WORKS BEST IN DARKNESS!

Jesus told us “You are the light of the world…”(Matt.5:14)

The power of Christ shines through us at its maximum peak of effectiveness when you and I –Christ followers—are in places where Jesus is desperately needed.

We just returned from our 35^th annual invasion of the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It underscores this truth perfectly.

Imagine the nearly one million people who came to this relatively small city to get drunk, crazy, lewd and more (the words depravity and debauchery are appropriate) and being met by a relative handful of people proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. That’s what just happened!

This Gideon type army (we had nearly 300 workers) were literal lights in darkness. Each day they waded into the raging river of partying humanity praying individually with hundreds of people to receive salvation, physical healing, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and so many other needs.

Everyday was filled with divine appointments reaching people from every imaginable background—Catholic, Protestant,Muslim,rich, poor, young, old, along with a melting pot of ethnicity.

There was also an outdoor worship rally with over 1000 people worshipping God in the middle of all the revelry.

One of the great strengths of this outreach is the partnership we share with The Rock Family Worship Center in Huntsville,AL pastored by my dear friend Rusty Nelson.

You see the power of the gospel not only works in controlled church settings but in the midst of humanity at what some may call its worst.

Dark places become great birthing grounds for new vision and ministry,too. This was seen as so many of our team had never been engaged in ministry like this. They became ignited and trained to reach broken lives with the gospel not only at Mardi Gras but back home.

Yes, I love dark places…it’s where light works best!

I love what the simple gospel does to a person’s life!

I love what hope for the future through Christ does!

I love what God’s love expressed through me and you can do!

Once again, I love dark places…I see Jesus mightily at work there!

It’s with your help we continue to invade the darkness . It’s our love,life and call.

In just a short time we will be back on Skid Row in Los Angeles bringing the life changing gospel of Jesus Christ to broken people. It will be Easter weekend and we are believing God to see lives changed by His resurrection power.

We are ever so grateful for your friendship and pray God’s very best for you!

We are crossing over!!

Those words can have different meanings. A musician can “cross over” in a style of music he performs like going from rock to country. You “cross over” a bridge that can take you from one place to another.

In the bible, we see the Israelites crossed over the Red Sea to escape the Egyptian army chasing them. The children of Israel crossed over the Jordan River on their way to their destiny.

As you and I “cross over” from 2015 to 2016 we are headed into the future and all that God has in store for us.

Nancy and I are ever so grateful for all God has done this past year.We ministered in 35 different cities (plus returned to several of these for more ministry) stretching from Los Angeles to Florida; New Jersey to New Orleans; from Colorado to Baltimore and much, much more.

The New Orleans Mardi Gras Invasion was incredible. Then Resurrection/Easter Weekend on Skid Row in Los Angeles; the streets of Colorado Springs, Dallas and so many more that became staging grounds for the life changing gospel to impact lives.

What an incredible privilege Nancy & I have carrying the gospel throughout our nation. What an indescribable joy we share with the angels of heaven as we see people of all ages, ethnicity and background meet the same Jesus that changed our own lives.

In addition, we thank you who have prayed, given financially and even worked alongside us. The part you play is immeasurable. In retrospect it is easy to say, “Surely, God is doing a great work!”

We are also so very grateful for your prayers and standing with Nancy, myself and our family as we continue to battle Nancy’s breast cancer…THANK YOU!!

As we “cross over” into 2016 what’s on the other side?

“Behold I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest.” (John 4:35)

I’ll tell you what lies ahead…harvest. A harvest that is ready and ripe. A time that has come. People ready for the Good News…Can you see it?

During 2015, a trail of destruction, hurt and tragedy was left nationwide. The floodtide of violence, perversion and disaster that swept over many left many lives devastated. Yet I believe we could be on the threshold of a great spiritual resurgence.  Check out this verse…

“Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise says the Lord.” (Psalm 12:5 )

As we cross over the threshold into the coming year one thing is for sure…Jesus is King, the harvest awaits and we must stay faithful winning souls!

When we read “The just shall live by faith…” (Heb. 10:38) a question must be answered…”WILL WE BE PARALYZED BY FEAR OF THE FUTURE or ENERGIZED BY FAITH TO CONQUER NEW FRONTIERS AND DIMENSIONS IN EVERYDAY LIFE?

We are getting ready to cross over into the coming months multiplying the gospel into the lives of so many who desperately need to know Him as you and I are blessed to do. Our strategies and plans are taking shape.

In getting ready for Christmas, I can’t help but think of two words…simple and beautiful.

Nancy is making plans for our family, “the tree” is up, decorations in place and anticipation is growing. Yet my mind and heart are drawn back to how simple this holiday really is…

A baby born in an unlikely setting was Jesus the Son of God .

It’s easy today to get distracted by “all the stuff” isn’t it? How grateful I am that the simple miracle birth of Jesus still brings true joy, peace, love and hope to our lives, homes and the world. The miracle of His birth sets the stage for miracles for every one of us.

How beautiful any life can become when we invite Jesus Christ into our lives.  We exchange our life for the life He brings as He makes His home in our heart. The beauty His presence brings into our families and homes is often greater than words can describe.

To me today, Christmas means more than ever! It is knowing and experiencing  His love and life everyday as well as making that same love and life of Christ known to as many as  possible.

The year round mission of Scott Hinkle Outreach Ministries is to reach those who do not enjoy God’s presence in their lives as well as to launch workers into the ripe fields for evangelism that are present in every town and city.

With your undergirding of prayer and special financial gifts we can see lives impacted and changed. Only eternity will fully reveal the effect our joining together has made.

I had to write this because it’s coming… one year from now…get ready!

A pivotal election of a President of the United States who will not only become the leader of our nation but the free world as well. This takes place during an era of unprecedented moral decline in our nation.

To take this matter much deeper…most Christ followers understand that the woes of our society today include:

• The recent execution of believers for their Christian faith on American soil.

• A greater social acceptance of perversion

• Developing alliances with sworn enemies of Judeo-Christian values.

• Public mockery of the Christian Faith

This list doesn’t need to go any further to illustrate a point.

What is happening in America cannot be arbitrarily attributed to the wrong political party.(Whatever that is) Neither can one man in the White House be blamed for the woeful state of society.

There is a tsunami of apathy which has swept through Christian movements, churches and ministries resulting in what is commonly called a “frog in the kettle” syndrome.

What is that? A frog is put in a kettle full of water at an initially comfortable temperature. Gradually the water temperature is heated up until it is boiling. Unbeknownst to the frog he is being boiled alive.

My friend, the water is getting hotter!   Can you feel the heat?

If you are unhappy with the current governmental leadership in America…remember …the majority of American people (including many church members) made their choice in the voting booth.

Whether you and I voted for this political party or not…as an American and moreover a believer in Jesus Christ…I MUST REPENT and ask God to forgive me and His people for Stage 4 Apathy. (In cancer treatment, stage 4 is the most serious stage.)

While there are many great Christian leaders, pastors, churches and ministries with a fire burning deep within, a swelling number have become “at ease in Zion” fully focused upon attractional externals resulting in an over obsession with the 3 B’s—buildings, budgets and bodies (in the seats).

While all of these have their proper place, often there comes a decline in a love, care and value for the individual lives of the people being reached.

The practice of reaching the unlovely, broken and hurting shifts romantically to some faraway place leaving those within a short distance of the church building out in the dark. It’s like a sprinkler head watering a great circle around but bone dry directly underneath.

Apathy…the great revival killer.

The cure? “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor,serving the Lord.” (Rom.12:11)

Keeping our spiritual fervor… Let’s keep Jesus in first place taking precedence over culture and if need be convenience and comfort. Being mindful of His heart and desire for none to perish, rekindling our first love for Him and the things He loves.

Just as was true in Israel’s history, a wholehearted turning back to God and pursuing what God values most brings about great change.

During the next 12 months SHOM will be ramping up what weighs as an imperative upon my heart…the preaching of the gospel to see lives changed, the call to awakening and revival in America as well as the raising up of a fresh generation of men and women to reach our towns and cities.

It is with your continued friendship, prayer and generosity that we will be able to reach as far as we are strategizing for. It’s a time to stretch forward!

Dear Ministry Family,

So often as I reflect on the WHY and HOW of this ministry God has placed us in there are two simple answers.

I don’t know about you, but usually God’s answers to my questions are not very complicated.

The WHY part is because Jesus salvaged my life many years ago. A few days later at an altar during a youth retreat I prayed this simple prayer out of a heart filled with gratitude to God for what He’d done for me.

This was that prayer…

“ Jesus, here’s my life, the good and the bad. Do with it as you will. I will go where you want me to go. I will do what you want me to do. I will be what you want me to be. I will say what you want me to say.”

God answers simple prayers! We have traveled millions of miles doing just that.

Now comes the HOW question. HOW are we able to GO, DO, BE and SAY in pursuing our part of the Great Commission?

The answer to that is easy as well…

When a young man, covered in tattoos comes to speak to me with eyes welling up with tears because my life story is like his and he receives Christ’s love and hope…   “You helped us be there.”

As we go to the streets, train workers for outreach or go to the rough communities and help pastors and inner city churches reach their neighborhoods… “You help us be there.”

When a young man comes to tell me he once gave his life to Christ then walked away and has made a fresh commitment to Jesus and he’s entered into a discipleship ministry… “You helped us be there.”

As we go to places like the Mardi Gras in New Orleans , Skid Row in Los Angeles or respond to other "Macedonian Call" invitations to reach communities and, moreover, broken lives in great need of the Gospel…”You help us be there!”

When Jesus said I must go to the towns and cities…He perfectly described our passion, call, life and love.

Dear Friend,

One of the hazards of being a traveling salesman, truck driver or even an evangelist is coming home to the sight of unpaid bills on the desk. Ugh!  While you’re gone they stack up and the debt accumulates.  Sooner or later, those bills must be paid.

 It’s somewhat like the commonly held opinion in America  that the problems we had some years back  with Saddam Hussein were the result of “unfinished business” in Iraq – what some people call “the unpaid bills” that “got paid” during the Persian Gulf War 12 years later.

Today, America is drowning in an ocean of ignored, unpaid bills.

 Congress has no power to pay this debt; these bills are spiritual.  Call it the American church’s “national debt.” These “unpaid bills” are the mushrooming, American unchurched population that much of the church, with few exceptions, has ignored.

Our church leaders have repeatedly made us aware of the obvious – that rapidly we have become a nation filled with unchurched people. Even in many Bible Belt communities, the influence of Christianity upon our culture is in a marked decline. The bills of unreached people are stacking up.

We need to pay this debt.

Reaching the unchurched and lost people in America is the responsibility of every single follower of Jesus Christ. Period. Jesus underscored this when He uttered the simple words “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel…” (Mark 16:15)

There are some steps to take to address this burgeoning spiritual debt-load, but first let’s look at a few factors that are adding to our burden.

We have turned our eyes from the harvest. People have become devalued, not only in our society but in the church as well. When we speak of receiving a harvest, our first thoughts often are of material blessings (yes, God blesses in these areas, hallelujah!). But Jesus also speaks of harvest in terms of people coming out of darkness and into the kingdom of God.

We have not kept the main thing a top priority. We (me included) Spirit-filled, charismatic or Pentecostal Christians are the most exuberant in expressing our faith in worship, yet we are also the most easily distracted and gullible, falling prey to subtle spins on genuine Christian practice.

 When it comes to taking the gospel to the unsaved, we’re like some people who run everywhere, take vacations, have fun and do anything but take care of obligations.

At times prayer becomes an easy substitute for action. Prayer is incredibly vital and to “pray without ceasing” is the only way to really live, but to pray only and not act is pure spiritual laziness (see Matt. 9:38; Ex. 14:15).

 C. S. Lewis made a powerful statement:

“I am often praying for others when I should be doing things for them.”

 Again,we must understand that America’s unchurched and unreached are the church’s unpaid

bills. Here a  few ways to address this spiritual debt load.

 Take responsibility. Become accountable to the Great Commission. Have you ever been at a table with a group of people in a restaurant, and when the check comes everyone ignores it? Let’s you and I reach out and pick up this tab. Ask yourself when Jesus said “GO YE” did He mean me?

 Cry out to God. Get down on our face and pray. Repent if need be, but pray in faith.  Believe that God desires you to pray this way and know He is listening. See the action and the answer taking place; be ready to be an answer to your own prayers to reach the unsaved. “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24, NIV).

See the harvest. See that the potential and possibility to reach people abounds even more during times of adversity. The time is not coming, it is here.

 Just do it! Gird up your mind. Get the necessary information. Make whatever changes are necessary to expedite your “taking care of the bills” and reach the people God has set before you. God has provided all the resources  we need to pay these unpaid bills. Let’s go do it!

Dear Ministry Family,

I write to you as “ministry family” because we are part of God’s family together.

Even more specifically, you’ve allowed Nancy and I to share our hearts, God’s Word and this ministry of SHOM with you. We are privileged to serve God and the Great Commission with you.

Because of this family relationship I felt prompted to open our heart and share an urgent personal request for prayer with you.

Recently, Nancy was diagnosed with breast cancer. Of course, we immediately went to and continue in prayer as well as sought counsel. As of now, the doctors are prescribing an extended course of treatment which includes chemotherapy, surgery and radiation.

The treatment process is scheduled to begin this week.

Throughout our life we have seen God’s intervention—over and over—as we’ve faced life’s challenges. This includes times of healing. We’ve faced lions and bears and seen them defeated. Now it’s time for this would be goliath to be defeated as well.

This is why I write to you and ask you to pray in faith along with us! Your immediate and ongoing prayer will make a difference.

We know Jesus is the Great Physician and our trust continues to be anchored in Him…first and foremost!

Your prayers for Nancy, our entire family and SHOM are coveted as together we believe for total victory.

This story applies to our times today.

There were four men afflicted with leprosy who were faced with a life and death decision. There was a great famine and imminent starvation. They faced certain death with just one slim chance of survival…surrender to the enemy.

The book of 2 Kings 7:4 (NLT) gives us this bit of their conversation,

“We will starve if we stay here, but with famine in the city, we will starve if we go back there. So we might as well go out and surrender to the Aramean army. If they let us live, so much the better. But if they kill us, we would have died anyway.”

At this point God honors their bold act and causes the Aramaens to flee their camp leaving everything behind…food, clothes, silver, gold, etc. These four lepers get to the camp, see the enemy has fled and go from one tent to the other eating and drinking carrying off for themselves all they could hiding it away.

They were having a good time but then something happens…

“ Finally they say to each other, “This Is Not Right” This is a day of good news and we aren’t sharing it with anyone! If we wait until morning, some calamity will certainly fall upon us. Come on, let’s go back and tell the people at the palace.” (2 Kings 7:9 NLT)

While these four outcasts had experienced a divine intervention miraculously sparing their lives from death they were initially content to keep it to themselves. Then came the crashing reality that it’s not right to keep it all for themselves but it is a day of good news and must be shared!

There has never been a greater day for Good News then TODAY! It must be shared! On street corners, coffee shops, hair salons, gyms, church pulpits, the mall and crusade settings…it’s a day of Good News!

No longer can we assume everyone in America (even in the so called “ bible belt”) knows or “has heard.”

The obvious is they may “know about” but have not heard an accurate presentation of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.

“This Is Not Right” the lepers said as they became painstakingly aware of their self centeredness leading them to an immediate right course of action.

Every day I am increasingly aware of the great opportunity God has given me and you in the day of Good News we live in. By this I mean a season where the Good News is as desperately needed as ever.

Scott Hinkle Outreach Ministries was birthed to spread Good News!

The word “multiplication” has taken on a renewed meaning to me. This great life transforming gospel must be multiplied into our world through every follower of Jesus Christ…Now! As the lepers realized tomorrow may not be soon enough!

This is why in addition to our longtime extensive travel, speaking and outreach schedule we continue to maintain, we are targeting the multiplying of the Good News through others. Our conferences, materials, training events and other ministry partnerships serve as vehicles for multiplying Christ’s life to the world through a new generation of leaders and workers.

Dear Friend,

These two words spoken by Jesus captured my attention.

When He uttered those words He was letting all people for all times know that there was something He was utterly compelled to do. There was something of greater importance that was underscoring the two words “I must.”

Indeed He was aware of a fundamental purpose that had been assigned to His life.

So much has been spoken of and written about purpose in recent times and there are great benefits to be derived from knowing your purpose.

Some of the “benefits” of knowing your own purpose in a job, ministry or life situation is that you find meaning, focus and motivation. Some aspects in life may even become simplified.

Paul wrote “All things are lawful for me; but all things are not expedient…” (1 Cor.10:23 KJV) There is so much pulling for our attention and involvement today.

Jesus was facing the very same thing when He said “I must.” Well meaning people were asking Him to do something that might not have been bad but would’ve detracted from His purpose.

Every day you and I are faced with choices that can help fulfill or detract from fulfilling God’s purpose for our lives. His Word provides insight and instruction for these decisions and His Spirit gives us wisdom.

Friend, just as there was something Jesus said  “I must” to, I know you have some “I musts” as well.

My prayer for you can be found in these words:

“ May He grant you according to your heart’s desire and fulfill all your purpose.” (Psalm 20:4)

Please read with me where Jesus spoke those words…

“I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God in other towns,too, because that’s why I was sent.” (Luke 4:43 NLT)

In those words of Jesus are the “I Musts” of my life and Scott Hinkle Outreach Ministries. We must GO to the places where there are hurting lives in desperate need of the Good News that will change their life.

I pray your summer is filled with the pursuit of your God given “I musts” and for the riches of His grace to be poured upon you.

Dear Friend,

This is one of the most heartfelt letters I’ve written you.

The headlines from the April 27th New York Post gripped my heart…

“It’s war on cops as riots grip Baltimore,” followed by another article “Crips and Bloods Team Up To “take out” Baltimore Cops.”

Several times I have had the privilege of ministering in Baltimore including times of bringing Christ’s hope and new life to the streets. In just a few weeks I will return there and request your prayers not just for us but moreover the city and God’s people there who are pro-active in being “salt and light”.

What’s happening in Baltimore is simply the latest unmistakable piece of evidence for a great spiritual awakening desperately needed across America.

I use the word “awakening” as I am referring to the spiritual and moral darkness blanketing the growing number of precious lives who have never been touched or influenced by the church or Christianity. These people must be awakened for the first time.

There is a distinct difference between a revival and an awakening.

In referring to the church of Jesus Christ which I dearly love, a “revival” is desperately needed that will not simply mean extended services with great preaching, exciting worship and manifestations but a return to the primary purpose for any church to truly exist fulfilling Christ’s intention.

I am referring to a revival of what once was, but has apparently been lost by many.

First, I firmly believe that the primary reason any church should exist is to keep people from going to hell in their community. Second, discipling, mentoring, church life,etc. are extremely vital living mechanisms for spiritual health and growth yet secondary in primary purpose.

When the first does not exist the second doesn’t really matter.

After all we read: …He does not want anyone to be destroyed…(2Peter 3:9 NLT); …who wants everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4 NLT)

This heart of God must be “transplanted” into every heart of every Christ follower!

Facing the dire straits of today’s world I am reminded of a charge issued to us in the book of Isaiah:

“Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you. Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you. All nations will come to your light…(Isaiah 60:1-3 NLT)

The message is so very clear!

In the face of great moral and spiritual darkness you and I are instructed to “Arise!” In other words take action. “Shine” or release the presence of God in prayer as well as through our life, words and actions.

Never are we to be intimidated by the moral and spiritual darkness for “greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.”(1 John 4:4)

As Jesus instructed us to “Wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.” (John 4:35NLT) I hear the words “Listen, the Lord is calling to the city.”

This is what Scott Hinkle Outreach Ministries was birthed for…to bring the life transforming, family restoring and community impacting message of Christ’s Good News to broken lives. This has been our track record in towns and cities throughout our great nation and around the world.

I am writing you like this because I feel you care about precious souls in our communities and that you want them to open their lives to Jesus Christ as you have.

It’s hard to believe that 45 years ago TODAY, in a root beer stand parking lot I opened my life to Jesus Christ! IMMEDIATELY I was drafted into a life time of preaching Good News around the world.

TIME REALLY DOES FLY!

Within 90 minutes of my radical encounter with Christ, I was telling others what happened to me…MY LIFE WAS CHANGED… Delivered from heroin addiction and so much more!

Within a short time doors began to open for me to publicly share my testimony speaking to small and large groups of all kinds. It was in the heat of a nationwide revival called “the Jesus Movement.”

I was personally discipled by the man who led me to Jesus. Later on I went to two bible colleges.

God blessed me immeasurably with a wonderful life partner…my wife Nancy as well as our two children.

We helped start multi-faceted street ministries in Denver,CO and Hollywood,CA. In addition, we directed two drug rehabilitation homes for women coming off the streets.

Jesus’ words “Go into all the world and preach the gospel…”(Mark 16:15) were taken seriously by Nancy &I as we travel around the world bringing God’s hope, love and new life through the Good News.

There have been innumerable outreaches and rallies in many of our nation’s darkened and broken communities often touching the lives of people who’ve been shattered by hurt, drugs, gangs, loneliness and despair. There continues to be an intentional empowering of pastors, leaders and workers to reach their own world through our international, national and local training events.

 I can’t tell you how grateful I am to Jesus for allowing us to have seen so much! Yet I believe the best is about to happen! God never does anything less greater than He has done before!

THANK YOU for having shared so much of this with us through your prayers and financial support. Many of you have even been alongside us on the streets or one of our events!

WE ARE GOING TO CELEBRATE by doing something Nancy and I love… going to Skid Row in Los Angeles for Easter. Working together with our friends at the Fred Jordan Mission I will preach the resurrected Jesus on Easter Sunday to the hurting and broken on Skid Row. Skid Row has a “resident population” of between 3-6000 people that live on the streets of this small section of downtown Los Angeles.
